Lindy Hop

Sean is also very enthusiastic about swing dancing, or more specifically the Lindy Hop, a social dance form that developed in Harlem's Savoy Ballroom in the 1930s and 1940s in the company of music by greats such as Chick Webb, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Ella Fitzgerald. He was given his foundation in the dance by Kerlin da Silva at the dance-a-lot studio in Hamburg and has since also participated in classes in Dublin with Jessica Yates and with Jamie and Clare at the International Dance Academy. Sean can only highly recommend this fantastic form of social dance to everybody who likes to enjoy themselves!

Aikido

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that Sean has been interested in for a number of years. He received his training in the art at the doju of the HTBU in Barmbek (Hamburg) with Christian Wichmann, Heike Griep, and Eckhard Claassen, where he managed to progress to 5th kyu (pretty low on the totem pole!). This non-competitive martial art was developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th C. and is based on circular motions, joint and sword techniques, and throwing techniques. Training serves to develop physical and mental balance as well as to internalize effective self-defense techniques.
